I hope that this message finds you and your families safe and healthy.
I would like to thank everyone for your continued cooperation while our business follows the guidelines set forth by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus Disease of 2019 (COVID-19).
In recent years the US has faced numerous outbreaks of highly contagious diseases. Dentists and doctors adhere to Strict CDC guidelines to ensure patient safety.
Other transmittable diseases such as Hepatitis, HPV Herpes and HIV/AIDS, are also mitigated daily through CDC and OSHA guidelines to prevent the spread of illness to our patients and staff.
I have been in this practice for 30 years; and I want to personally reassure you that we follow strict Infection Control procedures to protect our patients, families, and staff.
Please know that we are doing everything to ensure your safety while you are under our care.
We have added several new protocols to decrease the chances for transmission of COVID-19.
To include the following:
- Patients are asked to wear a face mask or cover inside the practice at all times
- Body temperatures will be checked upon arrival
- Seating arrangements have been altered to allow for CDC-recommended social distancing practice. (Thus, no more than 2 patients will be seated in the waiting room at a time).
- You will be asked to wash your hands inside a treatment room under supervision by one of our team members, in accordance with CDC guidelines
- If you need a blanket to keep warm, you must supply your own clean blanket, brought in a bag
- If you come to your appointment with a companion, he or she must remain in the car during the appointment; or pick you up when you are finished with your dental appointment
We have also implemented the highest standards of equipment and systems for your protection like the following:
First let me clarify that COVID-19 is not an airborne transmitted virus, it is primarily transmitted via respiratory droplets or droplets of saliva containing the virus. This is why we have a “Droplet Protection Program”.
We are pleased to inform you that we have increased your level of protection and safety during dental procedures by adding OCTOdent to our Droplet Protection Program.
OCTOdent, is a Droplet and “External Aerosol Suction” and “Air Scavenger” device which is now installed and operational for dental patient care in our clinic for both Dental Prophylaxis and Operative treatments. It absorbs dirt, dust, fungi, bacteria, vapors and human corona viruses like COVID-19.
OCTOdent has installed a UV-C germicidal lamp that destroys bacteria and virus by breaking its DNA structure. This also adds a firm layer of protection to our air supply. It will provide you with the highest standards for patient safety in the industry and is part of our Environmental and Engineering Controls aimed at reducing the spread of infectious diseases.
Dental Units Waterlines (DUWL) Treatment
We have followed the recommendations regarding the need to shock all our Dental Waterlines to include the Sonic Scalers. We have then installed to each Dental unit the technology “DentaPure”, which was developed for NASA to ensure water consumed in space was free of bacteria, viruses and any other harmful organisms. It is the only iodinated water treatment product that is EPA registered as an “Anti-Microbial Waterline Product”. DentaPure treats dental unit waterlines from the first day of installation for the life of the cartridge, reducing harmful bacteria exposure to patients and staff during aerosol producing procedures.
DentaPure is FDA cleared, and exceeds ADA, CDC and OSAP microbiological standards. Contains no hazardous silver and insures practice meets or exceeds water quality providing CFU levels of less than 200.
Water is tested and sent for proof test with an outside source such as Proedge.
Air Protection and Ventilation Protocol
CDC has not identified confirmatory evidence to demonstrate that viable virus is contaminating the Air conditioning and ventilation systems.
Still, for your protection we had our ventilation system cleaned industrially with proven video probes. We then installed UV series of light at the air entrance to destroy harmful organisms.
UV LIGHT controls mold and bacteria, reduces odors and removes VOC’s. Certified NADCA to National standard with source contamination removal through the system.
Eliminates 99.9% of harmful germs and viruses like salmonella, E. coli, and COVID-19.
Together with the Scavenging properties of the OCTOdent, air exchanges occur several times per hour per hour.
Note that patients are provided treatment in individual rooms in our dental setting
Instrument Sterilization .
We follow strict Sterile Supply Cycle. We sterilize in a Steam Autoclave. This is a machine that uses steam under pressure to kill bacteria virus fungi and Spores. After instruments are cleaned to reduce the Bioburden they pass through a Biosonic device, then rinsed and dried and inspected. Then they are packed in pouches with markers for adequate sterilization and pressure markers and carried into the autoclave chamber. From there they are stored in a dry place for Quality Assurance. Autoclaves are continuously monitored through biological markers and indicators as well as tested through an outside reliable source, in this case Mesalabs.

Important Information Regarding COVID-19
In recognition of ongoing news reports and the continued spread of the COVID-19 virus, we realize our patients have questions. As dedicated health care professionals, we want you to know that we remain as diligent as ever in protecting the health and safety of our patients and staff. Our practice strictly adheres to and exceeds the standards for infection control by wearing personal protective gear, using hospital-grade disinfectants, practicing the latest sterilization protocols, utilizing single-use disposable materials, and more. Every effort we have in place is to ensure the safety of our patients and staff. We want you to know that we are monitoring this situation very closely, and we will keep you updated regularly.
Symptoms of coronavirus are reported as flu-like, with varying degrees of severity. While we do not know everything about this virus to date, individuals who are elderly and/or immunocompromised appear to be the most at risk of a severe infection. To ensure your health and safety, and the health and safety of everyone at our practice, please reschedule your appointment if you or a member of your household has a cough, fever, and/or flu-like symptoms. In addition, please reschedule your appointment if you have traveled to any areas within the past 14 days that are at high risk for contracting the coronavirus.
